Nether Kellet is a small village in the Northwest of England in the County of Lancashire, although close to the border with Cumbria.  Much of Cumbria and Northern Lancashire was settled by Viking invaders, and many place names like that of this village are derived from Scandinavian words.  Thus a “Kellet” is a slope with a spring.

In the 1850’s and 1860’s the village had a bad reputation and was notorious for cock fighting, drinking and ruffianism, and there was no school or place of worship – but all this has changed…
