Welcome
Much of Cumbria and Northern Lancashire was settled by Viking invaders and many place names like that of this village are derived from Scandinavian words. Thus a “Kellet” is a slope with a spring.
In the 1850s and 1860s Nether Kellet had a bad reputation and was notorious for cock fighting, drinking and ruffianism and there was no school or place of worship – but all this has changed…
Browse through these pages to see what life is like now in 21st Century Nether Kellet.
As you may have seen in recent editions of the “Round and About” magazine we’re looking for local people to get involved in the creation and maintenance of the content.
The site has been up and running for some time now and we’re keen to get some more of the local groups and associations involved to help make the site a useful resource to supplement the great work already undertaken by “Round and About”
magazine.
If you represent one of these groups or you think there’s a topic that readers of the website may be interested in, please get in touch via info@netherkellet.com.
